German construction company to open new Saudi Arabia jobs in 2019

German construction company Fischer plans to increase its workforce in Saudi Arabia in 2019, expanding its team of 30-plus staff already in the kingdom, the head of its Middle East and Africa business has revealed.

“Saudi is a major market in our region,” said Jayanta Mukherjee, managing director at Fischer FZE, speaking to Construction Week on the fixing specialist’s expansion plans in the region over the next 12 months. “Even 2018 it has been an exceptionally successful year for us.

“With the current changes that are happening in Saudi Arabia, we believe that the country is preparing to invite a lot more foreign investment in infrastructure projects. So we are expanding our team there.”

The firm currently has a presence in Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah. Mukherjee said he wants to specifically increase the footprint of Fischer's specification business, adding that the Eastern Province and Tabuk in the northwest of the kingdom are specific areas of opportunity for the firm.

“Jazan is place where we see a huge potential for us because there are a lot of industries there,” said the Middle East chief. “A lot of investments are being made there.”

Mukherjee's comments come after a busy 2018 for Fischer. The firm announced in May 2018 that more than one million of its fixing systems would anchoring spectator seats, roofs, and other elements of eight of the football grounds at the 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia.
