Step Towards Afghani Peace

The Kingdom's hosting of the International Conference of Muslim Scholars on Peace and Stability in the Republic of Afghanistan is a new round of a long series of Saudi Arabian support to the Islamic issues out of its responsibility as the leader of the Muslim World and its pioneer global role in strengthening international peace and security.

In the Afghani affair specifically, and over four decades, Afghanistan experienced political junctures and upheavals that almost shut the state down and obliterated its identity, as it turned to be an open battleground. In such disruptive circumstances, the Kingdom adopted a constant stance based on maintaining the unity of the Afghani lands and the necessity of terminating the entire military actions with a view to safeguarding the security and safety of the Afghani brothers.

The Saudi stance was not partial in those volatile stations but only to the Afghani people by supporting all the peace initiatives and parties at the negotiating table to end the suffering of the Afghani brothers. History has recorded for the Kingdom bringing the disputing parties together and its unlimited support to any peaceful project that places the State on the right path as an influential Muslim power in its regional and international environment.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, and on the basis of his desire to stop the blood shedding of the brothers and end their suffering, called on, several weeks ago, all parties to extend the truce reached between the Afghani government and the Taliban during Eid Al-Fitr.

He expressed his hope that the truce could essentially be built on for a better future for the people of Afghanistan through dialogue, folding the pages of the past and opening new windows in which the sun of peace shines throughout the country.

The conference, which will kick off its activities tomorrow in Jeddah, will represent by the participants and the themes to be discussed a new hope that will help the country out of conflict, violence and division, especially that the role of the Muslim scholars in achieving peace will be mainly present in the conference's agenda.

The great support provided by the Kingdom for the brothers in Afghanistan is no less than the hope for the conference to achieve the desired goals and to come out with results that constitute a step forward in establishing peace and ending a difficult period in the history of the country and the people of Afghanistan.
