Saudi Today, Deezer’s First Local Podcast to Offer Cultural Insights and Commentary
Online music streaming service Deezer has announced the launch of “Saudi Today,” its first podcast for the Kingdom, featuring social media celebrity Amy Roko.
The move follows the provider’s Saudi National Day campaign “Let’s Sing for the Homeland,” which invited all music fans to use a specially designed online feature to nominate songs that best expressed the love people had for the Kingdom.
In this exclusive interview with Al Riyadh Daily, Tarek Mounir, Deezer’s CEO in MENA and Turkey, provide us with more details on Deezer’s upcoming plans for the Saudi market:
- Can you tell us more about the new (Saudi Today) podcast with Amy Roko, what distinguishes it from other podcasts?
The Kingdom is a young country, bursting with innovation and creativity. There’s a cultural shift happening. Our listeners want more local content, and we heard them.
Saudi Today is Deezer’s first original podcast for the region. When we were conceptualizing it, our focus was Saudi listeners. No other podcast that is so hyper local. This is an authentic Saudi show.
We gathered the best talent for the show. Our host Amy Roko and the guests give a great overview of the Kingdom’s lively culture scene.
Deezer is a global brand with a local heart. Saudi Today reflects this.
- What does Deezer aspire to achieve with this program?
Culture plays a key role in Saudi Vision 2030. The Kingdom is going through a major cultural shift. Saudi Today is a part of this change. It aims to inspire, entertain and inform. We hope it inspires many more Arabic podcasts. Saudi Today offers insights into Saudi Arabia. And the breadth and diversity of Saudi talent.
Also, podcasts are a powerful tool to connect with listeners. Saudi Today will surely increase our audience share.
- What is the expected viewers turnout for the program from Saudi Arabia?
Audience numbers are promising. They inspire us to keep investing in local content and talent. We have positive feedback on our activations and content.
Discerning music fans love Deezer. Our unique features and hyperlocal approach is paying off.
- What are Deezer’s major plans for the Saudi market in the next 5 years? Does Deezer have any future to partner with other applications such as StarzPlay, Netflix, etc to create and/or stream series and movies?
Saudi Arabia is a key market for Deezer. We have signed important partnerships in the two years since we launched. Our first ever partnership was with Saudi Telecom Company.
We also signed an exclusive streaming partnership with Rotana Records. Thus, we have the largest Arabic music library of all streaming platforms.
We have more upcoming content and telecom partnerships. Watch this space!
