NIC's Director, SDAIA: HRH the Crown Prince’s Support Enabled Launch of World’s Largest Tier IV Gov’t Data Center ‘Hexagon’
Director of the National Information Center (NIC) at the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) Dr. Esam Alwagait said the strategic progress in Saudi Arabia’s data and AI sector reflects the support and empowerment of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of SDAIA’s Board of Directors.
Alwagait spoke to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the launch of SDAIA’s Hexagon Data Center, the world’s largest government data center rated at Tier IV, the top classification for such facilities.
In a statement to SPA, Alwagait expressed his highest appreciation to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and to HRH the Crown Prince for their care and support in strengthening national capabilities that reinforce the Kingdom’s standing across various sectors, including data and AI.
He noted that SDAIA has undertaken extensive efforts to develop a strategy for this advanced technology sector, supporting the national digital ecosystem and enhancing the Kingdom’s global standing.
Alwagait said the Hexagon Data Center, one of SDAIA’s major initiatives, will play a pivotal role in reinforcing national data sovereignty as well as hosting and developing modern digital solutions in line with the Kingdom’s ambitious digital transformation journey.
He underscored the continued support extended to SDAIA by HRH the Crown Prince to position Saudi Arabia among the leading countries in data- and AI-driven economies and establish it as a global hub for these advanced technologies.
The Hexagon center marks an unprecedented leap in the Kingdom’s national data infrastructure, Alwagait said, noting the center’s vast capacity and advanced technologies in cloud computing and big data processing.
He emphasized that today’s launch reflects the integration of efforts among government entities to ensure a unified and secure digital ecosystem that enhances the efficiency of government services and supports data-driven decision-making.
The strategic project will contribute to boosting the Kingdom’s global competitiveness and economic standing, creating various job opportunities, and supporting national GDP growth, Alwagait affirmed.
The center will also enhance government entities’ digital services, helping improve the quality of life in the Kingdom in line with Vision 2030 objectives.
