Saudi Arabia, Türkiye Sign MoU to Strengthen Railway Cooperation

Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser and Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance railway cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
The agreement was signed in Riyadh in the presence of Transport General Authority President Fawaz Al-Sahli, along with officials and representatives from the Kingdom’s transport and logistics ecosystem.
The MoU highlights Saudi Arabia’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships and develop its rail transport sector, seeking to advance passenger transport services, enhance operational quality, and improve supply chain efficiency. These efforts align with the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services and Saudi Vision 2030, which aim to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub linking three continents.
The agreement focuses on enhancing cooperation on railway standards, technologies, and related innovations, while facilitating the exchange of expertise and knowledge on best practices in the design, operation, and maintenance of railway projects. The partnership also covers the development of engineering aspects, infrastructure, and safety standards, as well as support for transport integration and efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the railway sector.
Areas of cooperation include supporting research, development, and exploration activities, sharing technical expertise, and adopting modern innovations, which help advance the Kingdom’s railway sector and improve its operational performance.
The MoU also provides for enhanced partnerships between the two sides in training and national workforce development through specialized railway academies. It further supports the adoption of best practices and the localization of railway-related industries, helping strengthen the sector’s regional and international competitiveness.
