Jeddah Astronomy Society Outlines Celestial Events for August

 August 2026 will feature a major lineup of astronomical events, including a total solar eclipse, the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, and a deep partial lunar eclipse, according to the Jeddah Astronomy Society.
 While the August 12 total solar eclipse will pass over Russia, Greenland, Iceland, and Spain without visibility in Saudi Arabia, the region can look forward to a historical total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027, spanning over six minutes. Additionally, ideal moonless conditions on the night of August 12–13 will allow viewers in dark areas to observe up to 100 Perseid meteors per hour.
 The month closes with a deep partial lunar eclipse on August 27–28, obscuring roughly 93% of the moon’s diameter, visible in its early stages from western Saudi Arabia.
 Throughout August, observers can also spot prominent planetary displays—including Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars—alongside the seasonal shift from summer to winter constellations.
