OIC Condemns Killing of Journalists in Gaza, Calls for Accountability

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the killing of journalists Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh, along with several other media professionals, in the attack on a journalists’ tent in Gaza City on Sunday, stressing that it constitutes a blatant violation of international law and a flagrant breach of press freedom.
In a statement, the OIC denounced the crime as part of Israel’s systematic violations against media outlets and workers in the occupied Palestinian territories, noting that since October 7, 2023, the number of journalists killed has reached 242, reflecting deliberate efforts to obscure the truth and prevent its dissemination to the international community.
The organization held Israel, as the occupying power, fully responsible for the crime, calling for an international investigation and for the perpetrators to be held accountable. It reiterated the urgent need for relevant international institutions to take immediate action to stop the deliberate targeting of journalists and media professionals, and to ensure their protection under international humanitarian law and related conventions.
