Aseer Farmers Begin Traditional Corn Thinning Operations to Maximize Harvest Yields

Farmers in Aseer Region are conducting thinning operations in their cornfields, a generational agricultural practice that improves crop growth and increases yields while reflecting the community's deep-rooted connection to farming as a core economic and social identity.

According to local agricultural researcher Mu'eed Al-Mu'nis, corn cultivation in Aseer aligns with specific seasonal cycles, most notably the rising of the Pleiades star cluster. This traditional celestial marker has historically guided locals in identifying planting times and preparing fields during optimal climate conditions.

As a vital maintenance step following germination, thinning eliminates weeds that compete for water and nutrients while reducing overcrowding. Executed during early growth stages, the process strengthens the remaining corn plants and improves aeration between rows, heavily enhancing harvest quality.

The full cultivation cycle spans from initial plowing and sowing into moist soil through germination, thinning, weeding, and bagging, before culminating in flowering, ear formation, and harvest. By passing down this environmental and soil expertise, Aseer's farmers continue to preserve the region's sustainable agricultural heritage.
