Foreign Policy Magazine Hosts the Secretary General of the Muslim World League
Foreign Policy magazine hosted a discussion session in the U.S. capital, Washington, with His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the Secretary General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars. The session was attended by editorial officials, the CEO and publisher of the magazine, as well as a distinguished group of religious, intellectual, media, and political figures.
The session featured discussions on a number of issues and topics, particularly those related to religious and intellectual affairs.
While responding to questions directed to him, His Excellency addressed the contents of the “Makkah Charter” and the unique characteristics that distinguish it. Attendees praised the idea and content of the document, noting that it reflects the broad-mindedness of Islam and embodies the tolerance of the true Islamic faith and its values of coexistence with all people, in addition to addressing several contemporary issues.
The Charter is considered one of the leading contemporary religious documents. It was signed by more than 1,200 figures, including muftis and scholars, while more than 4,500 Islamic thinkers attended its conference. The Charter was also endorsed by the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which recommended benefiting from it in religious, educational, and cultural institutions across the Islamic world. Currently, many imams around the world are being trained on the document’s principles in implementation of the OIC’s recommendation.
The meeting also addressed a number of contemporary international issues in light of the mission and objectives pursued by the Muslim World League.
