Saudi Fund for Development Inaugurates Wayamba University Development Project in Sri Lanka
CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad inaugurated the Wayamba University Township Development Project in Sri Lanka. Funded by the SFD with a total of $28 million, the project supports the educational sector across various regions in Sri Lanka and was launched with the attendance of officials from both countries.
The project aims to improve access to quality education by establishing seven modern facilities which promote learning and development. It seeks to empower over 5,000 beneficiaries, including students and university staff, by fostering a more inclusive educational environment, enhancing skill development, and contributing to urban advancement through modern education systems.
This initiative underscores the SFD’s long-standing partnership with Sri Lanka, which began in 1981. Since then, the fund has financed 15 development projects and programs across key sectors such as water, agriculture, transport, communications, health, and education. The total value of these soft development loans exceeds $424 million, aimed at promoting social advancement and sustainable economic growth in the country.
