
Environment Ministry Teams Inspect Public Benefit Markets in Madinah
As part of its Hajj season field plan, the Madinah branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture conducted inspections in public benefit markets between Dhu al-Qidah 20 and 25 to monitor the compliance of establishments and vendors with health and regulatory requirements, resulting in 63 recorded violations.
The plan, carried out by 286 personnel organized into 11 field teams and supported by 68 vehicles and pieces of equipment, involved 738 visits to fruit and vegetable markets in Madinah. These inspections resulted in the detection of 33 violations and the disposal of 3,094 kilograms of agricultural products deemed unfit for consumption. In addition, 75 pesticide residue samples were collected from the public benefit markets, and 150 tests were conducted at the ministry’s branch laboratories to ensure product compliance with regulatory standards and consumer safety.
The efforts also included inspections at Madinah’s central date market, where a total of 461,797 kilograms of dates were traded from farms to retail outlets, with an overall value of SAR7,039,806. Additionally, 132 field visits were conducted to vegetation resource sites, including farms and warehouses, providing agricultural guidance to beneficiaries. Another 192 field visits focused on services related to the water sector. Meanwhile, the branch’s various departments received 38 reports, all of which were addressed by maintenance teams.
The ministry branch also conducted 842 field visits to livestock markets and slaughterhouses, identifying 30 violations. Furthermore, 210 visits were carried out under the livestock sector, providing veterinary guidance services to 189 individuals. A total of 141 medical examinations were performed at licensed and mobile veterinary clinics, including treatment for 59 illness cases at licensed clinics.
