King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Launches Initiative to Plant 100,000 Arta Trees in Al-Dahna
King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority announced the launch of the “Arta Afforestation Initiative,” which aims to plant 100,000 Arta trees in Al-Dahna Desert within the geographical scope of the reserve, in cooperation with the Wasm Environmental Association, activating the cooperation agreement signed between the two sides and as part of strategic efforts to enhance vegetation cover and restore desert ecosystems.
The initiative seeks to enhance community and private-sector participation by attracting around 20,000 volunteers to establish an integrated model to protect natural resources and boost environmental sustainability within the reserve’s boundaries, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative.
CEO of the King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority Eng. Maher Al-Gothmi stressed that the initiative represents a fundamental pillar of the authority’s ambitious plans to restore ecosystems, noting that the target of planting 100,000 Arta trees represents a commitment to continuing efforts to reintroduce native plant species, which play a pivotal role in achieving ecological balance and combating desertification.
The Arta tree is considered one of the most prominent native trees, distinguished by its high adaptability to arid climates, its importance in stabilizing soil and limiting sand encroachment, and its vital role in enriching plant biodiversity in the Kingdom’s desert environments.
