Theater and Performing Arts Commission Concludes Participation in Avignon Festival
The Theater and Performing Arts Commission concluded its participation in the 79th annual Avignon Festival for theater and performing arts, held in southeastern France from July 14 to 22, with Arabic designated as the guest language of this year’s edition.
It marked the commission’s first official presence at one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious arts festivals, which boasts a history spanning nearly eight decades. During the event, the commission presented a comprehensive Saudi artistic experience featuring 128 performances across four traditional art forms that reflect the richness and diversity of Saudi heritage: Al-Khatwah, Al-Liwa, the Wadi Al-Dawasir Ardha, and Al-Khubayti.
The commission also staged the Saudi play Tawq in eight performances that attracted large audiences and drew enthusiastic responses from French and international attendees, underscoring the growing global interest in the Saudi cultural scene.
The commission’s participation comes as part of its ongoing efforts to expand the international presence of local Saudi art forms.
