Saudi Arabia: A Beacon of Hope in Disaster Response through KSrelief
Observing the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on October 13, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia affirms its commitment to global resilience through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief). The Kingdom implements a comprehensive system of relief projects that extends beyond immediate aid to build nations' capacities for recovery.
Saudi Arabia's disaster response embodies a sustainable humanitarian commitment that integrates humanitarian and development efforts. This includes initiatives aimed at mitigating global crises and improving living conditions.
In addressing natural disasters, KSrelief has provided significant financial support through the United Nations, particularly to address marine pollution from the FSO Safer tanker oil leak off the Red Sea coast.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, KSrelief assisted affected countries by supplying medical aid, health supplies, and equipment to strengthen community responses.
In response to disasters like earthquakes and floods, KSrelief acts swiftly. Following the 2023 earthquake in Syria and Turkiye, the Kingdom dispatched relief air bridges and emergency medical teams.
In September 2025, KSrelief sent a relief convoy for flood victims from Lahore, Pakistan, delivering thousands of food baskets and shelter kits with essential items.
The Kingdom has also initiated efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, providing food, shelter, and medical assistance via air and sea bridges, along with airdrop operations for specialized aid.
During the acute malnutrition crisis in drought-affected Somalia, KSrelief intervened with emergency support, including food programs for children and shelter for displaced individuals.
Since its inception, KSrelief has implemented 3,786 projects in 109 countries, with expenditures exceeding $8.206 billion. These efforts reflect the Kingdom's commitment to humanitarian work and improving quality of life.
