Al-Masani: A Town Steeped in History and Culture along Wadi Hanifah in Riyadh
Al-Masani town, located south of Riyadh, lies on the banks of Wadi Hanifah, where the valley irrigates its historic palm groves and farms. It benefits from the floods of Wadi Namar, with the confluence of Wadi Namar and Wadi Hanifa marking its northern boundary, while the southern end spans three kilometers to the junction of Wadi Hanifah and Wadi Al-Batha.
The town is home to several monuments, including a 700-year-old stone dam on Wadi Hanifah. The dam measures three meters wide, four meters high, and approximately 150 meters long.
After multiple restorations, including significant work during King Abdulaziz's reign in 1322 AH, the dam site now features a public park with a 10,000-square-meter lake, 4.5 kilometers of walkways, and abundant palm trees.
Dr. Rashid Al-Asakir, a historian, noted that Al-Masani is known for its fruit orchards and vegetable farms, where residents established palm endowments producing high-quality dates.
Located south of the Southern Ring Road near Al-Shifa neighborhood, Al-Masani was once an independent town before becoming integrated into Riyadh.
