Saudi Arabia: A Global Hub for Major Events and Economic Diversification

Saudi Arabia is undergoing a historic transformation, becoming a focal point for global events that blend tradition with modernity. From the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and Expo 2030 to the 2029 Asian Winter Games and the 2034 FIFA World Cup, the Kingdom is rapidly emerging as a leading host for international gatherings.
According to a report by the International Monetary Fund, hosting these events will significantly boost the Kingdom's non-oil economic growth. They are expected to drive investment in infrastructure and stimulate sectors such as construction, hospitality, and transportation. Growth will be supported by an increase in tourism and foreign labor, with non-oil GDP projected to accelerate to 3.5% in the medium term. This aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to diversify the economy and reduce reliance on oil.
The events will also create substantial employment opportunities, both directly and indirectly. A key component of this transformation is the empowerment of Saudi women, who are expected to benefit from expanded job opportunities, further enhancing their role in the national economy and increasing female participation in the workforce.
To prepare for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, Saudi Arabia is building and upgrading stadiums to meet international standards. For the 2029 Asian Winter Games, the Kingdom is developing cutting-edge facilities in Trojena within NEOM, setting a global precedent for hosting winter sports in a unique mountainous environment. Trojena is positioned as a major driver of economic growth and diversification in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
Economists believe the long-term impact of these events will solidify Saudi Arabia’s position as a global leader in the fields of economy, tourism, and sport.
