Prophet's Mosque Canopies Enhance Safe, Comfortable Environment for Worshippers

The canopies of the Prophet's Mosque enhance the comfort of worshippers and visitors by providing a safe environment that protects them from intense sunlight and weather fluctuations, particularly during peak times in Hajj and Umrah seasons.
The canopies installed in the courtyards surrounding the Prophet's Mosque were built to high structural and engineering standards, ensuring resistance to wind, fire, and rain.
They also feature a sand-colored fabric that allows light to pass through while preserving the artistic designs unique to each canopy.
The project includes 250 retractable canopies, each measuring 25.5 meters per side and rising to approximately 22 meters, with a weight of around 40 tons.
The canopies operate through automated systems that open at sunrise and close before sunset. Each canopy consists of two interlocking parts that merge seamlessly when closed.
The canopies were manufactured using fiberglass-reinforced carbon fibers adorned with mosaic patterns, along with gold-plated copper. The integrated engineering design includes an internal operating cylinder, eight upper and lower supports, as well as internal, central, and diagonal arms.
The canopies are equipped with 436 mist fans installed along the sides to cool the atmosphere, in addition to over 1,000 lighting units, helping create a spiritual ambiance and moderate climate for worshippers.
Each canopy can accommodate over 900 worshippers, with a combined capacity of more than 228,000 during peak times.
