Over 5,000 Tons of Waste Removed in Arafat as Part of Cleanliness, Monitoring Efforts in Holy Sites
The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, represented by the Holy Makkah Municipality, intensified its field efforts in Arafat as part of the service ecosystem provided to pilgrims during the 1447 AH Hajj season, with more than 5,000 tons of waste removed and cleared, equivalent to the loads of more than 330 large transport trucks, within the framework of maintaining public cleanliness and enhancing environmental health in the holy sites.
The work included the operation and preparation of equipment, machinery, and specialized field units, as well as the use of nearly 8,000 waste containers distributed across multiple locations in Arafat, thereby continuously improving the efficiency of waste collection, transportation, and disposal. Environmental sanitation, washing, and sterilization operations were also carried out around the clock in high-density areas.
The municipality enhanced its operational efforts with specialized field teams and rapid cleaning and removal machinery to ensure the readiness of the holy sites and the continuity of services during crowd movement and transportation between the sites, especially in areas surrounding pilgrims’ camps and pedestrian routes.
Inspection teams also continued intensive monitoring activities on catering kitchens and commercial establishments to ensure compliance with health requirements and regulatory instructions, guaranteeing the safety of food provided to pilgrims and the quality of services delivered to them.
