Riyadh's Early Date Harvest Ignites Commercial Activity

Local date markets in several Riyadh Region governorates are experiencing significant commercial activity as the early date harvest season begins, running from August 1 to the end of November. These markets have received early varieties of dates, including Sukkari, Rothana, Khalas, Barhi, and Saq'i.

The palm and date sector is a vital resource for the national economy, contributing to income diversification. Last year, the Kingdom's date exports reached SAR1.695 billion, distributed across 133 countries. This sector is also crucial for enhancing food security in the Kingdom.

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has identified Riyadh Region as a key date-producing area, hosting some of the largest central date markets and nearly 80 diverse varieties. The region's total date production exceeded 453,000 tons, making it one of the highest-producing areas in the Kingdom. There are over eight million palm trees in the region, of which more than 6.8 million are productive.
