National Afforestation Program Identifies over 165 Plant Species Suitable for Afforestation in Aseer

The National Afforestation Program announced that it has identified more than 165 native plant species suitable for afforestation activities in Aseer Region, a step that reflects the richness of the region’s plant diversity and underscores the importance of utilizing native species in environmental sustainability projects.
The program noted that the inventory and classification process was conducted as part of specialized scientific efforts, based on field studies and precise environmental criteria that account for the suitability of plants to Aseer's climatic and topographic conditions. This approach contributes to improving the efficiency of afforestation efforts and achieving long-term sustainability for environmental projects.
Relying on native plants is a key pillar of modern afforestation strategies, given their strong adaptability to local conditions, lower water requirements, and vital role in protecting soil, reducing erosion, supporting biodiversity, and preserving natural habitats for living organisms.
Aseer Region is among the richest areas of the Kingdom in terms of vegetation cover, owing to its climatic diversity and mountainous elevations, which have contributed to the emergence of unique ecosystems that include a wide range of trees, shrubs, and pastoral and medicinal plants.
