Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Sector Records Landmark Achievements in 2025

The Olympic and Paralympic sector in the Kingdom recorded new chapters of success in 2025, driven by the unwavering support of the Saudi leadership, as well as the continuous follow-up of Minister of Sport and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal.

The strategies and initiatives launched in 2025 outlined a clear roadmap for the coming years and aligned with a long-term vision aimed at achieving major milestones by 2032, with the goal of raising the Kingdom’s flag on international podiums across all sporting arenas.

The year 2025 was particularly exceptional, marked by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ sponsorship of the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, hosted in Riyadh in November. The event was widely recognized as the most successful edition of the games since 2005, as attested by all 57 participating Islamic countries.

During the same year, international sports organizations continued to demonstrate their confidence in Saudi sports leadership and administrative expertise. This was reflected in several high-profile appointments and elections, including the appointment of Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal to the Olympic Refuge Foundation in June, the election of Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdullah bin Faisal to the World Motor Sport Council, the election of Mohammed Alharbi as Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation, the election of Shaddad Al-Amri as Vice President of the Asian Taekwondo Union, and the election of Saudi rower Husein Alireza to the Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee, making him the first Saudi athlete to achieve this distinction.

The year also marked a historic milestone with the Kingdom’s first-ever participation in the Harbin Asian Winter Games, represented by eight Saudi athletes. This achievement underscored the rapid development and growing competitiveness of winter sports in the Kingdom.

Women’s sports continued their remarkable progress in 2025, with Saudi female athletes achieving significant technical and competitive advancements. Their success was highlighted by winning 10 medals across various disciplines at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, the highest number of medals secured by Saudi women in a single international tournament outside of the Gulf competitions.
