Red Crescent Activates Cardiac Pathway, Restores Patient’s Heartbeat in Riyadh

The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) in Riyadh Region successfully revived a patient who suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest in the Al-Murabba neighborhood, following the activation of the cardiac emergency pathway and immediate on-site intervention.

The authority stated that it received a report of an unconscious patient, with emergency medical teams arriving at the scene within six minutes. Upon assessment, the patient was found to be in full cardiac and respiratory arrest, showing signs of an acute cardiac event, which prompted the immediate initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Simultaneously, the medical control center activated the cardiac emergency pathway in accordance with approved protocols. This pathway allows patients to be transferred directly to the cardiac catheterization laboratory without passing through the emergency department, expediting critical intervention and improving their chances of survival.

The SRCA explained that this specialized pathway relies on the integration of field response teams and healthcare facilities, significantly reducing the time from initial case detection to the start of treatment, thereby improving outcomes in critical cases.

It added that the rapid response, early resuscitation efforts, and activation of the pathway contributed to restoring the patient’s pulse before he was urgently transferred to complete the required medical care.

The authority emphasized the importance of promptly requesting ambulance services via the emergency number 997 or through the ASEFNI application when cardiac symptoms are suspected, noting that early reporting plays a vital role in activating specialized pathways and increasing survival rates.
