Saudi Medical Intervention Saves 70-Year-Old Yemeni Man in Socotra Within 12 Hours
The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) recorded a Saudi humanitarian success story at Socotra Hospital in the Republic of Yemen, after an urgent response and high-level coordination succeeded in saving the life of a 70-year-old Yemeni man who had been run over by a vehicle in Socotra Governorate. The patient was in critical condition, and the lifesaving intervention was completed in a record time of less than 12 hours.
According to the details provided, SDRPY received a report regarding the patient's condition following a traffic accident. The patient's condition was extremely severe due to a life-threatening brain hemorrhage. Immediately, the SDRPY general supervisor, Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jabir, directed that all necessary medical requirements and urgent care be provided to preserve the patient's life.
Given the medical risks associated with airlifting the patient outside Socotra, an urgent response was made to secure a neurology consultant, a specialty unavailable in Socotra Governorate. A vehicle was arranged to transport the consultant overland from Mukalla in Hadramout Governorate to Al-Mahara Governorate, after which the journey was completed by air from Al-Ghaydah Airport to Socotra Airport. This precise and rapid coordination reflected SDRPY's high level of readiness.
All required medical equipment and medications for the procedure were urgently obtained from Aden and immediately transported to Socotra Hospital. Upon the consultant's arrival and the delivery of supplies, the medical team began treating the case immediately under real-time supervision by Socotra SDRPY Office Manager Mohammed Al-Yahya.
The medical procedure was successful, and the patient's condition stabilized following the rapid intervention, a remarkable humanitarian achievement underscoring the Kingdom's significant role, through SDRPY, in supporting the health sector and saving lives in remote areas despite geographic and logistical challenges.
The medical intervention stands as an honorable model and a message of hope, reflecting the value of Saudi development and humanitarian work and its direct impact on saving lives under the most difficult circumstances.
