General Authority of the Two Holy Mosques Affirms Its Crowd Management Efforts for Hajj Season
The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque continues to serve as a supporting and enabling body among the entities responsible for crowd management, working to ensure the safety of pilgrims performing Hajj rituals.
The authority provides decision-makers with technologies and tools such as counting sensors that deliver real-time data on movement density. It also operates guidance screens and signboards to enhance awareness and help direct crowds within the Grand Mosque and its courtyards.
In coordination with relevant agencies, the authority takes part in spatial and temporal crowd management by designating specific entrances for pilgrims to support balanced crowd distribution. It guides worshippers and circumambulators through designated routes for Tawaf and Sa’i, organizes prayer areas based on capacity, and activates the role of volunteers to assist in crowd movement and deliver multilingual support services.
To further promote awareness, the authority distributes instructional booklets in more than 25 languages and broadcasts guidance and warning messages via screens across the Grand Mosque and its courtyards. These efforts aim to minimize unnecessary gatherings and prevent movement against designated flow routes.
Special care is given to the elderly and individuals with disabilities by preparing prayer areas equipped with dedicated services and establishing special access routes to ensure safe movement. The mosque’s courtyards are also fitted with ventilation systems, flooring, and essential services to optimize these areas for crowd distribution.
