The National Water Company (NWC), represented by the Western Cluster, announced the completion of 18 operational and capital projects in Makkah and the holy sites, costing some SAR400 million. The projects are part of the company’s plans to improve the water and environmental services infrastructure and increase coverage to serve the residents, visitors, and pilgrims during the Hajj season 1446 AH and the coming years.
According to a NWC press release, these projects will enhance operational efficiency and bolster water supply through rehabilitating some water storage facilities, pumps and network control systems, in addition to enhancing fire and cooling networks, enabling real-time monitoring of the water quality, activating proactive measures, increasing the capacity of wastewater and water distribution pipelines, and improving the efficiency of networks overall in Makkah and the holy sites.
The capital projects include projects for developing and rehabilitating many water storage facilities in Makkah and the holy sites, including implementing a 190,000 m3 steel tank. Additionally, there are projects for installing main pipelines, valve rooms, and networks to support the supply and control of water networks in various locations at the holy sites. Such projects aim to boost operational efficiency, ensure sustainable distribution, and enhance network reliability, especially during peak hours.
With regards to operational projects, the company stated that it reinforced its operations in the holy sites with a set of projects that include the installation of water pressure measuring devices, water meters, water and wastewater network sensors, in addition to the replacement of operational tank pumps, and water and fire network isolation valves. The goal is to control, monitor the levels, and improve the efficiency of the main assets in water, wastewater, fire, and cooling networks, to ensure the highest quality services to the pilgrims during the Hajj season.
In preparation for the Hajj Season, the company emphasized that it continues to work on enhancing its systems and supporting the implementation of operational and technical plans. NWC is keen on providing the best-in-class services to the pilgrims, driven by the instructions of the wise government, which is committed to harnessing all capabilities and resources to serve the pilgrims and enable them to perform the Hajj rituals with ease and serenity.
