Three More Saudi Cities Join UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced the addition of three new Saudi cities to the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, marking a milestone that reflects the Kingdom's accelerated progress in enhancing its lifelong learning system and aligning education with the goals of sustainable development.
According to UNESCO's official website for 2025, Riyadh, AlUla, and Riyadh Al-Khabra have joined the network after meeting international standards that promote the integration of learning into daily life through schools, workplaces, public facilities, and homes.
UNESCO recognizes that these newly joining cities are vibrant learning communities, effectively creating opportunities for workforce retraining and skill upgrading to meet advanced labor market demands. They also prioritize enhancing literacy skills for individuals who missed early education, empowering citizens to adapt to the artificial intelligence era, and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship.
With this achievement, the number of Saudi cities in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities has increased to eight, including Jubail, Yanbu, Madinah, Al-Ahsa, King Abdullah Economic City, Riyadh, AlUla, and Riyadh Al-Khabra.
