
The very first Esports World Cup holding place in Saudi Arabia
The very first Esports World Cup (EWC) is taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 3 to August 25, 2024, in what will become an even greater milestone for the esports industry—with its record-breaking more than $60 million prize pool. The EWC Foundation has organized this ambitious event in an effort to raise the level of competition higher into the global esports scene, bringing top players with in 54 teams from around the world to Saudi Arabia to compete against one another across 21 popular game titles, such as, Apex Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2 and League of Legends.
For eight weeks, the EWC is expected to be a defining moment because of the unique type of competition it brings. This shall include a Club Championship in which top-performing teams across several games will be hailed as champions and will share multi-million dollar rewards. Also $50,000 MVP bounties for outstanding performers in each game.
The EWC supports Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at diversifying the economy of the nation and enhancing tourism, besides creating new employment opportunities. The Crown Prince, Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman has termed the event "about establishing Saudi Arabia as the number one hub for esports and gaming in the world." The EWC is sure to attract nearly three million fans to Riyadh, hence making it the bustle of activity in esports and cultural celebrations.
Following up on the momentum from last year's Gamers8 festival, this will be Saudi Arabia's serious investing in the esports industry. Saudi Arabia is bankrolling this mega event to build a self-sustaining and thriving esports ecosystem and improve its position as esports pioneer on the global stage.
