Saudi Hospitality Journey: How Local Experts Are Reimagining Traditional Arab Hospitality for Modern Luxury Hotels

For centuries, visitors to Saudi Arabia have experienced something special – a warmth and generosity that goes beyond mere courtesy. This isn't just good manners; it's a cultural DNA that Saudis take seriously. Now, as Saudi Arabia opens its doors to millions of tourists as part of its Vision 2030 transformation, one hotel group is tackling an intriguing challenge: how do you capture that authentic spirit of Saudi hospitality and deliver it at five-star standards?

Elaf Group, a major player in Saudi hospitality, thinks it has the answer. At the Future Hospitality Summit in Riyadh this May, the company unveiled The Saudi Hospitality Journey – an ambitious project that turns traditional Saudi welcome customs into a sophisticated hotel experience without losing what makes them special.

Homegrown Expertise Takes Center Stage

What's striking about this initiative isn't just its cultural ambition – it's the deliberate choice to use exclusively Saudi talent to bring it to life. In an industry often dominated by imported expertise, Elaf Group assembled a dream team of local specialists to create something that would resonate with both Saudis and international guests.

This vision came to life through meticulous details crafted by Saudi experts at the top of their fields. Chef Hessa Al-Bashar took charge of the culinary program, developing sophisticated interpretations of traditional Saudi dishes that would meet the expectations of Elaf Group's discerning hotel guests.

The signature scent experience was created by Hind Al-Gheithi, a designer with more than 28 years of expertise in Saudi perfumery. She developed an exclusive fragrance blend using indigenous Saudi ingredients that greets guests upon arrival. Fashion designer Reem Aselan, a specialist in heritage clothing, designed staff uniforms that elegantly reference the diverse regional styles of Saudi Arabia while maintaining the professional standards expected in luxury hospitality. The sensory journey is completed by Mohammed Bahasan, one of Saudi Arabia's most celebrated musicians, who composed original pieces that play throughout the hotels' public spaces. His compositions skillfully weave traditional Saudi melodies with contemporary arrangements, creating an immediate sense of place through music from the moment guests step through the doors.

From First Welcome to Parting Gift

The project takes a comprehensive sensory approach, engaging guests through all five senses. From the spoken welcome and traditional fragrances to Saudi coffee and dates, from heritage cuisine to traditional-inspired attire – every element has been carefully designed to reflect the Saudi culture in a way that's simultaneously sophisticated, contemporary, and authentic.

A Strategic Move Toward Market Leadership

The initiative is central to Elaf Group's ambitious plan to establish itself as Saudi Arabia's premier hospitality brand by 2025. With more than four decades of experience and properties in Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, and Madinah, the company is well-positioned to serve both domestic travelers and the growing influx of international visitors.

The project also demonstrates how private sector companies can meaningfully contribute to Saudi Arabia's National Culture Strategy and Quality of Life Program. By creating a hospitality model that shares the Kingdom's story through emotionally resonant experiences, Elaf Group is showing that cultural preservation and commercial success can go hand in hand.

The Saudi Hospitality Journey ultimately proves that Saudi Arabia can compete on the global stage without sacrificing what makes it unique. It's a return to cultural roots with an eye firmly on the future – where guests aren't merely accommodated but truly celebrated, leaving with memories that transform them into storytellers of the Saudi experience they lived.
