The second stage of the WBC Boxing Grand Prix concluded yesterday in Riyadh, featuring 64 elite rising boxing stars from more than 40 countries. The event, part of a global sports initiative organized by the World Boxing Council (WBC) in partnership with Riyadh Season, underscored the Kingdom’s growing prominence in hosting international sporting competitions.
Held over two consecutive days in Boulevard City, the stage featured 32 high-stakes knockout bouts across four weight classes: featherweight, super lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight. All matches were officially sanctioned by the WBC and determined the qualifiers advancing to the third stage of the championship.
The tournament’s professional organization and competitive intensity highlighted Saudi Arabia’s expanding footprint in international boxing—a sport enjoying increasing popularity throughout the region.
This stage marked a significant milestone in the championship’s progression, with the results shaping the path toward the finals. The third stage is scheduled to take place in August, culminating in the grand finals in December, when Riyadh will be crowned the official “WBC Champions Capital” across four weight divisions.
The tournament’s first stage was held in April and featured 128 boxers from around the globe. That round delivered thrilling bouts and underscored the high caliber and determination of the competitors, reinforcing the tournament’s rising influence in the global boxing scene.
