MWL Welcomes Australia’s Intent, New Zealand’s Consideration to Recognize Palestinian State
The Muslim World League (MWL) welcomed Australia’s announcement of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine, as well as New Zealand’s declaration that it is considering the same move.
In a statement, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa affirmed that the positions taken by the two governments represent an important step in the right direction toward a legitimate and responsible stance in support of the Palestinian people’s historic and legal rights. He highlighted that such a stance represents the only path to achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the region.
Al-Issa called on all countries of the world to “bear their responsibilities toward the plight of the Palestinian people by standing on the right side of history, upholding international legitimacy.”
He urged "putting an end to this painful humanitarian tragedy and its serious repercussions on the region, the international community, and the world at large."
