‘Terhal’ Brings Together Saudi Talents, Global Expertise in Immersive Theater Experience

The theatrical performance “Terhal,” organized by the Ministry of Culture at Diriyah’s Mayadeen Theater until August 25, continues to present a creative model that combines the energy of young Saudi artistic talents with specialized global expertise in an immersive experience that meets international standards while preserving local roots.

The work is the result of creative collaboration involving more than 120 artists and professionals from the Kingdom and several other countries, in a comprehensive production blending contemporary visual storytelling with Saudi identity in its emotional and cultural dimensions. It serves as a model of cooperation between local talent and international expertise, delivering a high-quality theatrical performance rooted in immersive theater and modern technology.

Saudi artists played an active role in all aspects of the production, including performance, directing, design, and writing. They benefited from creative workshops conducted before the show’s launch, as well as from direct interaction with international experts who contributed their knowledge and experience in visual theater, interactive technologies, and movement arts.

The production maintained a balance between local sensibility and global professionalism by showcasing elements of Saudi heritage such as handicrafts, majlis settings, cuisine, and traditional chants while incorporating cutting-edge theater technologies including digital effects, original musical compositions, and intelligent lighting responsive to actors’ movements. It represents a significant step forward in enabling the Saudi performing arts sector to grow rapidly by fostering a dynamic production environment that promotes knowledge exchange and the practical transfer of expertise.

Beyond being a stage performance, “Terhal” is also a behind-the-scenes production success story, highlighting Saudi theater’s ability to be a source of knowledge, a platform for nurturing talent, and a bridge for global cultural collaboration.
